Alain Laurent Verbeke, Partner within the Greenille Private Client practice, recently authored a contribution published by the De Tijd newspaper, commenting on the Flemish Government's recent announcement that it will abolish the inheritance tax regime applicable to so-called duo-bequests.

Alain Laurent Verbeke argues that it is a good idea to abolish the favourable inheritance tax regime of duo-bequest. The charity often serves purely as tax optimisation for the family members. There is little or no question of philanthropy. Technically, it is not a question of tax abuse; morally, it is an abuse of philanthropy. For that reason, Alain feels that the Flemish Government has done well to announce that it is abolishing this inheritance tax regime.
